The Social Neuroscience of Education

In The Social Neuroscience of Education, I explore how the social brain learns best in the context of supportive and loving relationships. I use the neuroscience of attachment and learning to support what most teachers know intuitively, that their care for and attunement with their students is a powerful positive influence in the educational process. I investigate what good and even heroic teachers have done to stimulate minds and brains to learn, especially when they succeed with difficult or “unteachable” students. In this work, I hope to encourage administrators and empower teachers to create classrooms that nurture healthy attachment, resilient psyches, and a love of learning.
